Easy Wedding Shower Ideas

Author: Melanie Doetsch
Don't be intimidated if you've been chosen as the maid of honor
for your friend's wedding and your greatest fear is planning the
bridal shower! There are plenty easy wedding shower ideas to get
you started and make the whole process go smoothly.

The most popular wedding shower idea is the kitchen shower, and
it's really the most practical as well. After all, no one can
have too many kitchen utensils or appliances, and there is also
a host of nice little gourmet treats that the bride would love
to be gifted with.

A personal shower is also nice, with everyone giving the bride a
gift of lingerie or accessories such as inexpensive jewelry. She
might also like something like a skin treatment gift set,
cosmetics, or bath powder and perfume.

When most people think of wedding showers, they do tend to think
of tradition - a group of ladies getting together in someone's
home or at a restaurant or tea room. Lots of decorations, some
games and gifts. This is a wonderful concept, but if you're busy
it can be hard to pull off. That's why there's a new trend in
easy wedding shower ideas - activity based showers. We don't
mean rock-climbing (unless you want to) - we mean a girl's day
out.

Call a local day spa and ask if you can book an afternoon for
pedicures and manicures for the whole crew. This is especially
nice if you are having a small shower for close friends. You can
all talk and giggle and feel spoiled, then duck out for a drink
and open gifts afterward. No muss, no fuss, no cleanup or
decorating for you. And every guest leaves feeling special!

You can do the same with a cosmetics counter at a fine
department store - call ahead and explain that you have several
women who want makeovers and do a day of bonding over shopping.
In some cases, the makeup company will even throw in some free
gifts for the wedding party or bride. It's fun and inexpensive,
and again you can follow up with dinner or drinks. Not to
mention everyone gets a new look for the wedding day!

Maid Of Honor: The Bride's First Lieutenant

Author: Ron King
What Does A Maid Of Honor Do?

The scope of the maid of honor's role in the wedding depends
upon (1) how much responsibility she is willing to take on, and
(2) how much responsibility the bride is willing to delegate.
Usually the maid of honor is chosen because she is 1 of the
bride's very closest friends, and her job description as maid of
honor is similar to her activities as a friend.

Aide-de-camp

The maid of honor does much more than simply walk down the aisle
ahead of the bride and stand beside her during the ceremony. She
is the "highest ranking" personal assistant to the bride during
the wedding preparations. The maid of honor shoulders some large
responsibilities, such as hosting the bridal shower and
bachelorette party, and helping to choose the bridesmaid's
dresses.

But she is also there just to be supportive of the bride, to act
as a friend and confidante, and to help her in ways both great
and small. Throughout the weeks and months of wedding planning,
the maid of honor is involved every step of the way, from
choosing a dress and wedding location to helping wrap favors and
set up for the reception.

Party Hostess

2 of the larger responsibilities of the maid of honor are
hosting the bridal shower and the bachelorette party. As 1 of
the bride's closest friends, the maid of honor is the ideal
candidate to host these gatherings. She knows best what type of
party the bride will enjoy, and what types of gifts are most
suitable for the bride's taste. Because the bridal shower and
bachelorette party are aspects of the wedding preparation the
bride usually has little control over, she'll have the pleasure
of not stressing about them. She delegates these duties to her
maid of honor, and rests assured that her friend will handle
them admirably.

Wardrobe Consultant

Many times the maid of honor plays a key role in selecting
dresses for the wedding. She ordinarily chooses her own dress
for the wedding from a selection provided by the bride. Once the
color and style of the maid of honor's dress has been selected,
she works hand-in-hand with the bride to choose the bridesmaids'
dresses. Their style and color will complement the maid of
honor's dress, while taking into consideration what looks best
on each of the bridesmaids. The maid of honor often assists the
bride in choosing her own wedding dress.

Adviser And Confidante The wedding day is understandably hectic
for the maid of honor. Although she has supported the bride
throughout the planning process, her most important
responsibilities take place on the actual day of the wedding.
Besides standing at the altar beside her friend, the most
important role of the maid of honor this day is to keep the
bride calm and to handle any last-minute problems that may
arise.

Angel-In-Chief

Like most things in life, few weddings go exactly as planned,
and it is the maid of honor's duty to be sure that any problem
does not upset the bride. Emergency supplies the maid of honor
should keep on hand include: extra stockings, lipstick in the
bride's color, tissues, safety pins and hairpins. These can come
in handy if the bride has any last-minute trouble with her
attire, hair or makeup. The maid of honor plays the important
role of ensuring that the bride looks her best throughout the
day.

Counselor And Friend

When all is said and done, the most significant role of the maid
of honor is to be a friend to the bride. The planning and
preparations, and the actual wedding itself can be very
stressful and emotional for the bride. What the bride needs more
than anything else during this time is someone who will offer a
sympathetic ear and practical advice. This, then, is the most
important function of the maid of honor.

Roaring Twenties Wedding Theme

Author: Kirsten Hawkins
Whether it's the Great Gatsby or the look of gangsters, a
roaring twenties wedding theme can add a fun and unusual spin to
any wedding. If you are interested in being united in the look
of the twenties, here are some different ideas to get you
started.

The 1920's had a style all its own and with a twenties wedding
theme, planning will be enjoyable and memorable. Start by
transforming your wedding party into an era of "speakeasy" with
costumes resembling Eliot Ness, Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Bugsy
Malone, and John Dillinger. You and your future husband can also
think about dressing yourselves up as Bonnie and Clyde.

The bride's dress should fit into the twenties wedding theme.
Have a seamstress design one with an intermission hemline,
making it shorter in front and long in the back. Dropped
waistline and pleated skirts were a popular look in the twenties
and would make a beautiful wedding dress. For headdress, try a
Juliet cap, coronet or a simple band of silk flowers worn lower
on the forehead. Don't forget stockings (pantyhose) that have
noticeable seams. These were a big look for women of the
twenties.

The bridesmaids of the roaring twenties wedding party can dress
in flapper dresses with long, dangling bead necklaces, feather
boas and seamed stockings. Remember the bright red lipstick. No
twenties rendition would be complete without it!

Zoot suits, English driving caps, suspenders and wing tip shoes
were the craze for grooms and groomsmen in the roaring twenties.
Most tuxedo shops will either carry great selections from this
era or know of another shop you can visit to find this great
attire.

For a roaring twenties wedding theme, think glittering lights,
rough men, and romance. Although known for its crime age, the
twenties also became known as the Jazz Age, with the likes of
flappers and the Charleston. Music was upbeat and enjoyable,
skirts were short and the economy had everyone in high spirits.
This is the feel you want to incorporate into your wedding
theme.

Think about your invitations and what you want them to say.
These will initially set the mood of your guests before they
even attend your big day. Include passwords on the invitation
and have two friends stand at the door of the reception and ask
guests to recite the password if they want to enter. Be
original. Use different passwords on different invitations,
depending on the guest. If it is an old school friend, use your
nickname from high school as the password. If your grandma had a
name she called you, use this as her password. Also on the
invitation, let your guests know that although they are not
required to wear attire fit for the theme, it is welcomed and
would be fun.

Name your reception tables when seating your guests at your
roaring twenties reception. Have an 'Al Capone' table, a 'Bonnie
and Clyde' table, which can be used for the wedding party, and a
'Lucky Luciano' table. Attach guest names to long cigarette
holders that were used in that era.

Another great idea for your roaring twenties theme is to include
on the invitations that there will be contests held during the
reception. Have the disk jockey play jazz music, swing music and
organize these contests. You can include a contest for best
dance and best costume. You can also set up a booth for your
guests to have their photos taken as a souvenir to take home.

With a roaring twenties wedding theme, your wedding is sure to
not be forgotten by your guests and will make long lasting
memories for you and your 'Clyde'.

Look Beautiful On Your Wedding Day!

Author: Sher Matsen
Congratulations on your wedding day! I know this is the most
special day of your life and you want to look better than ever
before. Relax your a beautiful woman and with the right makeup
tips you'll not only look beautiful, you'll be drop dead
gorgeous! The most important thing to remember is don't get
stressed. Stress will show on your face and you don't want
anything to ruin those photos.

It?s your day! You?ve got the perfect dress, veil, and shoes ?
now you'll have perfect makeup. Here are some Dos and Don?t tips
to help you on your very special day.

**Do**

1. Use a professional makeup artist if possible. Have a
pre-wedding consultation so your makeup artist already knows
what you want

2. If you decide to do your own makeup then visit the cosmetic
counter at least a month before your wedding and have the
consultant try different colors to see what looks best on you

3. Do your makeup before dressing

4. Have your makeup done as close to the ceremony as possible

5. Have a facial two weeks prior to your wedding. If you?ve not
had facials in the past we would recommend you start this
process 3-4 months prior to your wedding.

6. Use a primer before applying your foundation. This will make
your foundation last longer. It is also a good idea to use an
eye primer to eliminate shadow creasing

7. Make certain your foundation is an exact match to your skin
tone

8. Use powdered rice papers to eliminate any shine

9. Use a light to medium lipstick that is long wearing. If you
will be having black and white photos then add a layer of lip
gloss

10. Exfoliating your lips will result in your lipstick lasting
longer

11. Use translucent powder to set your makeup

12. Blend, blend, and blend again to make sure all your makeup
is smooth and even.

13. If you are prone to red eyes use eye drops prior to the
ceremony

14. Use water proof mascara just encase the tears of joy appear

15. Charcoal, navy, or mahogany are your best options for
eyeliner. Black or brown may look too severe, especially if your
wedding will be held during the daytime and/or outdoors.

16. When applying your makeup wear a button shirt that can be
easily removed when its time to dress.

17. Place a towel over your head prior to slipping into your
gown to avoid getting makeup on your gown.

18. Don't forget your blush! A pop of color on your cheeks is
like an instant facelift.

19. If you?ve had your hair professionally done and you will be
removing your veil, then have the stylist show your mom or
bridesmaids how to fix your style

20. A week before your wedding rehearse your makeup ? practice,
practice, and practice some more, until you perfect the look you
want for your wedding day

21. Treat nails at least a week prior to your wedding to ensure
you are not dealing with ragged or dry cuticles

22. If your wearing sandals then about a month before your
wedding start your foot treatment so your feet look as good as
the rest of you

** Don't **

1. Do not do your own makeup. Have a professional makeup artist
or a friend do it. Chances are you?ve got a bit of the jitters
with all the excitement which could result in you having
difficulties doing your own makeup

2. Don?t make your foundation thick like a mask. Light for
overall evenness is best.

3. Don?t use shiny or shimmering products on dry skin

4. Don?t overuse lip gloss

5. Don?t have a facial within the previous 48 hours of your
wedding. Facials can occasionally have unexpected results and
you don?t need any surprises.

6. Don?t pop any pre wedding zits, instead use Visine to take
the red out

7. Don?t fret or stress ? go with the moment

Follow these tips and you'll be the most beautiful bride on the
planet!

A Bride's Wedding Day

Author: Annette Medina-Plaza
A Bride's Wedding Day can be filled with lots of joy, excitement
and anticipation along with a measure of anxiety and a certain
level of stress. The following checklist will hopefully help to
keep the anxiety and stress levels to a minimum.

1. Wedding Gown

As we all know your wedding gown is a very important item on
your wedding day, I dare say some brides will consider it THE
most important. After all, you've invested a lot of time, not to
mention money, in selecting the perfect gown. So, it should go
without saying that you should make sure your gown is ready the
night before the wedding, right? While you are doing that, also
make sure that the following items are ready;

* Veil and headpiece * Special undergarments (bra, panties,
slip, hoisery) * Garter * Shoes * Gloves * Jewelry

And in case your veil or dress gets a bit wrinkled have an Iron
or Steamer handy.

2. Make-up and Hair

If you are doing the make-up yourself, the following items
should be easily accesible;

* Make-up (foundation, powder, eye liner, eye shadow, blush, lip
pencil, lipstick)

If you are having someone else do your make-up, call and confirm
your appointment time.

Other essential items are;

* Nail polish and file * Curling Iron, curlers * Comb, brush *
Hairspray, extra bobby pins * Handheld mirror

Again if someone else will be doing your hair, call to confirm
the appointment time.

3. Emergency Kit

I'm not talking about a First Aid Kit or the famous black bag
that doctors carry, unless of course you are a doctor. I'm
talking about a few items that can help make your day be a
smooth one. To that end you will need the following;

* breath mints * hanky * small needle and thread kit * a few
safety pins * extra hosiery * lipstick and compact mirror

4. Reception

If you are planning to change your outfit for the reception,
make sure you have;

* Going-away outfit * Going -away shoes and hosiery *
Undergarments * Accessories (jewelry, etc)

And if you are departing for your honeymoon right after your
reception;

* Honeymoon suitcases should be placed in the getaway car along
with your wedding night bag.

5. Ceremony

Most common items for a ceremony are;

* Ring pillow * Flower basket ( if not being delivered by your
florist) * Bible * Unity Candles * Bridal Bouquet

However, the list can dramatically change depending on religion,
ethnicity, type of ceremony etc. Make sure your checklist on
this category includes the items you want to incorporate in your
ceremony.

The Wedding Day is the one day where prayers for perfection
abound. Making a "to do list" will keep things from feeling
out-of-control and overwhelming, thus allowing for a more
enjoyable and pleasurable experience for the bride and those
around her.
